The change took effect on September 25, 2026, following amendments published in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026.
According to Tanzania’s Immigration Services Department, Nigerian nationals travelling to the United Republic of Tanzania will no longer be subjected to the additional visa referral process previously required for them.
Nigerians can now apply for visas through Tanzania’s official immigration online portal or designated entry points, in line with the country’s standard visa procedures.
The development was announced by the Chief Spokesperson of the Tanzania Immigration Services Department, ACI Paul J. Mselle.
Mselle said the removal of Nigerian passport holders from the referred visa category followed the recently published amendments to Tanzania’s immigration regulations.
The change means Nigerian travellers will no longer face the additional referral requirements previously applicable to their visa applications.
However, Nigerian passport holders are still required to obtain the appropriate visa and meet Tanzania’s standard entry requirements before travelling.
